Clearing The Slate
This first course is vital! There is a reason that this is the very first thing we do. I know, and you know, that you already know how to ‘business’ but trust me when I say that every single successful business person I have ever met and coached nails the things you will find in here not once, but over and over and over again. I personally re-visit my big why in my weekly business reviews, and my core values and core messages in my monthly business reviews.
Even though they might on the surface seem a little tedious, everyone who does the activities in these course says ” OMG I got SO much from that” so don’t be tempted to skip over anything in this course. The clarity you will get forms the very foundation that your future business is built on. You have probably been running your business for quite some time, and successfully too. In order to scale up, and to get your business working for you in a way that supports your best life, we need to get clear on what you want your business to be, and not be. Missing these important foundations can cost you a lot in resources and anguish in the long run. But you get to start right, or to circle back and start at the right point so that your business will thrive in the future.
As a perpetual doing society, we tend to feel like if we just jump in and get started that everything will fall into place. In my experience slowing down and really thinking carefully about what, who, and why in the beginning affords greater gains down the line. Now, don’t get me wrong, as you get to know me better you will learn that I am all about taking action. However, my years of experience and trial and error have shown me that the steps and activities contained in this first module are what every thriving business has in common, so that is exactly where we will start.
In this module you will learn how to:
* Clarify your business idea so you can avoid overwhelm
* Communicate what you are offering clearly so people will understand what you are offering when we begin to build your visability
* Link your business to your soul purpose and core values so that your business will be sustainable in the long run
* Write an Elevator Pitch which is the basis of your marketing
* Discover why this business is really so important to you and the world so that you can communicate with your tribe
By the end of this module you will have clarity on what it is that you will be doing and why you are doing it. This is vital stuff, and with this under your belt, every business decision including future directions, marketing, and growth strategies will become easier.
This module requires a bit of thinking and to get the conscious brain out the way, good ole pen and paper will be employed. So if you do not already have paper both large and small, coloured pens, 3 colours of highlighters, and 3 colours of post-it notes please get some (or steal them off your kids or the neighbours).
In this lesson you will effectively ‘clear the slate’ of all the additional business ideas that you have swirling around in your head.
We use a modified form of Brain Dumping to get your subconscious brain out of the way so that you can dig deep and tease out all off-shoots of ideas. some of this information will be used later on.
As an entrepreneur you will be blessed with many ideas, it is one of your super powers. But in order to focus on what is important in the actual ‘doing’ part of setting up your business it is important to clear the decks so to speak so that these ideas do not sneak up and confuse your business operations and decisions later.
For this lesson you will need to:
1. Watch the short explainer video below
2. Grab some big paper, and some coloured pens/felts/pencils
3. Download the Brain Dump Activity PDF below
4. Lock yourself away for about an hour where you will not be disturbed and follow the instructions
*Don’t throw away what you write during this activity, you will come back to it later. Rather than keeping scraps of paper (because you will end up with a LOT) I recommend that you take a photo of the paper and save it into a Business Acceleration folder in your Google Drive Account. If you don’t have a Google Drive account please use what ever you love ie Evernote, GoogleKeep etc or create a Google Drive account. If you need help ask in the group :).
